Legal Alert: Court Clarifies Prior Order Extending Deadline to File Property Tax Appeals

UPDATE REGARDING EXTENSION OF PROPERTY TAX APPEAL DEADLINES:

On April 21, 2020, the New Jersey Supreme Court clarified its prior orders extending filing deadlines for 2020 property tax appeals to confirm the extension of filing deadlines applies to appeals where municipalities are subject to a revaluation or reassessment.The filing deadlines are now as follows:

(1)In a municipality not undergoing revaluation or reassessment, the deadline for filing a 2020 property tax appeal with the local County Tax Board or New Jersey Tax Court is extended to May 1, 2020, or 30 days after Executive Order 103 is lifted, whichever comes later; and

(2)In a municipality undergoing revaluation or reassessment, the deadline for filing a 2020 property tax appeal with the local County Tax Board or New Jersey Tax Court is extended to 45 days from the date the municipality mailed notices of assessments, or 30 days after Executive Order 103 is lifted, whichever comes later.
